Profile
Building on a nearly 25-year tradition of quality and reliability, and following the momentum of last year’s successful revival of the institution, the “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” this year offers opera lovers a unique opportunity and artistic experience.
On the 5th and 6th of September, as part of the 23rd “Pafos Aphrodite Festival,” the State Opera and Ballet Theatre of Tbilisi (Georgia), in its second consecutive appearance at the Festival and joined by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, will present two performances of Georges Bizet’s Carmen—one of the most iconic and beloved operas of all time. These performances will take place in the stunning setting of the Medieval Castle Square in Pafos.
Carmen was first staged in 1875 at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, with a libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, inspired by the novella of the same name by French author Prosper Mérimée. Since then, Bizet’s irresistibly fiery heroine has captivated audiences for generations and continues to enchant modern viewers with her unforgettable melodies and passionate, untamed spirit.
The “Pafos Aphrodite Festival” has been organized since its establishment in 1999 by the company Pafos Aphrodite Festival Cyprus, whose sole shareholder is the Municipality of Pafos.
Starting Monday, June 2, information about the Festival will be available on the official website of the Municipality of Pafos at www.pafos.org.cy. On the same day, ticket sales will begin through the Ticketmaster Cyprus platform (tel. 7777040).
