Archimandrite Symeon Papadopoulos has been elected the new Abbot and Archbishop of the historic Monastery of St. Catherine in Sinai, following a vote by the members of the Sinai Brotherhood in Egypt.

A total of 578 migrants have arrived on Gavdos, Greece’s southernmost island, aboard nine boats over the past day, according to state broadcaster ERT.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Sunday said the participation of Chevron and Helleniq Energy in an international tender for four offshore blocks south of Crete and the Peloponnese constitutes de facto recognition of Greece’s sovereign rights in the area.

Greece has submitted a letter to the United Nations rejecting Libya’s recent claims over maritime zones, which Athens says are based on the Turkey-Libya Memorandum, regarded as illegal by the Greek government because it disregards the existence and rights of Greek islands.  

The new school year began with concern for the three remaining Greek schools in Istanbul. At the Patriarchal Great School of the Nation, the oldest operating Greek school, no new students enrolled in the first grade of high school.
